Dell-Ann Benson, Board Secretary, Volunteer and Treasurer
Dell-Ann felt drawn to the Lutheran Church after attending service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview, the church she now calls home. As a newlywed, working in corporate accounting at Avis, she was eager to fill her free time and get involved at Good Shepherd. She joined the Finance Team and became a Sunday School teacher, enjoying time spent with both adults and children. But her number-crunching instincts soon took hold and landed her in a treasury position, which she has now held for over 25 years. Between her time at Good Shepherd and the arrival of her two children in less than two years, she felt called to leave Avis and fully enjoy motherhood.
Always believing that she had been very blessed, Dell-Ann wanted to give back by working for free. She gradually grew her finance responsibilities at Good Shepherd and sought volunteer work that coincided with her children’s schools. By the time her children graduated from Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School, Dell-Ann realized that her volunteer work was so varied that it involved as much time as a full-time job, so she gave herself the title, “Professional Volunteer.” In 2015, the invitation to join the board of LSA was a natural next step. She continues to enjoy volunteering, as well as outdoor activities (especially in Idaho) with her travel junkie husband.
